Whether it is the celebrated Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, his most frequently performed work, or Manuel De Falla’s beautifully contrasting Suite populaire espagnole and Massenet’s graceful and immensely popular Méditation from his opera Thaïs, the listener will be swept away and captured by the warmth and richness of these arrangements. David Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody alternates melancholic and highly embellished gypsy melodies with amazing pyrotechnics by Shauna, while Claude Kenneson’s Dreamscape, (written for Shauna) provides a provocative contemporary landscape, and draws inspiration in part from Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 133.
