Sounds of the Season brings together some of Canada’s brightest stars as they interpret their favorite traditional and not so traditional holiday carols. The musical styles are as diverse as the carols themselves exploring the influences of hip hop, reggae, gospel blues, R & B, Latin and global rhythms.

The holiday season is always a special time for music. From the tried and true classics, to new and original songs inspired by contemporary themes and musical styles. Sounds of the Season encompasses all of that including tracks like O Holy Night done in an old-school-gospel sound by Dione Taylor and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Donny Hathaway’s holiday favourite This Christmas is done by Juno Award winning artist Divine Brown in a throw back to the Motown sound.

Also included are some new, soon-to-be classics - Jully Black’s rasp and soul-stirring voice in her inspiring rendition of The Christmas Song while smooth R & B artist Ray Robinson weaves his distinctive impressions into an original song he's penned called I Wish. Other highlights include Afe Hyia Pa with the African Guitar Summit, the sensuous latin voice of Amanda Martinez, the diverse and groundbreaking funk collective The Pocket Dwellers and fado-blues sensation Catarina Cardeal doing a version of Silent Night you'll never forget. Also on the bill, Latin powerhouse Eliana Cuevas, acapella sensation In Essence and the soul-stirring groove of the multi-award winning group Jacksoul.

But, ultimately, what’s even more special than the music is the fact that a part of the proceeds from the Sounds of the Season CD will go to selected local charities.

Sounds of the Season presents a truly magical sound that will undoubtedly take its place in the list of must-have holiday albums.
