2007 Juno nominee for Best Vocal category.
Noted by the San Francisco Chronicle as, “a singer of rare gifts and artistic intensity” and by the Washington Post for singing with “an all-encompassing warmth and joy, melding honed artistry with youthful enthusiasm,” Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman has emerged as one of the most magnificent artists, vibrant personalities and magnetic entertainers of the day. She is critically acclaimed by the international press as much for her innate musicianship and radiant voice as for a sovereign stage presence far beyond her years.
A dynamic scope of her repertoire (which ranges from jazz and Lieder to gospel and opera) coupled with a profound depth of artistry, has brought her together with many of the finest opera companies, international conductors and orchestras. Ms. Brueggergosman’s first CBC Records release - So Much to Tell (SMCD 5234) was released in 2004 and received a prestigious Juno Award nomination.
EXTASE - this voluptuous new recording of 19th century French songs and arias by Hector Berlioz and Jules Massenet - is certain to be a hit with Measha’s fans. The centrepiece is the famous Les Nuits d’été composed by Hector Berlioz (1803-1869). Although these six songs about lost love originated as a set for voice and piano, it is in their orchestral guise that they are best known. The eminent Berlioz scholar David Cairns has called the orchestrated songs Berlioz’s “most beautiful and quintessential scores”.
YOAV TALMI, Artistic Director and Conductor of the ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE DE QUÉBEC in Canada since 1998, is well known on both sides of the ocean. In addition to holding several major conducting posts in the Netherlands, Germany, Israel and the United States, Maestro Talmi has conducted such distinguished ensembles as the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Zurich’s Tonhalle, Rome’s Santa Cecilia, as well as all London leading orchestras
L’Orchestre symphonique de Québec – which celebrated its centenary in 2002 – is based in Québec City, Canada. Since 1977, the OSQ has recorded an impressive discography of 14 CDs.
