China Rises, April 11, 2006 Review By:Jake Prosper The program is excellent. To my experience showed a balanced perspective of the challenges China faces. China is so complex, and this film addresses most of the core issues with context through the personal interviews and great visuals. It quotes some core statistics, wish it gave more. Small note on editing for TV format: the english translation sometimes go off the edge of the screen. Note my first visit to China was 1988, and recently lived for 15 months in the Shanghai area, got to know many local people well and was able to travel a bit in China. Despite China’s superficial economic prosperity, the depressive perspectives of china such as, government corruption, environmental destruction and unequal wealth distribution are also being revealed in the program. Although many Chinese people may think our native country is developed now, the reality is that this minority prosperity is accomplished through the suffering of millions of other. I would like to purchase the DVD for my family and hope that on the DVD it could have Chinese subtitles or the original Chinese would be greatly appreciated.
