Growing up, Don Cherry (played by Gemini-nominated Jared Keeso) aspired to become a professional hockey player. After a stellar junior career, he is poised to make the big leagues but a shoulder injury banishes him to the minors. Don spends the next sixteen seasons moving his family around North America as he plays for ten different teams and encounters some of hockey’s most colourful characters.
Don soon realizes his hockey destiny is not as a player, but as a coach. After six years behind the Boston Bruins’ bench, Don’s brash style with the media and outrageous wardrobe make him a natural for television. With a little help from fate, Don finds his way on to CBC Television’s beloved Hockey Night in Canada, becoming the king of Saturday night hockey.
